The Hunger Games: Character Analysis
Katniss Everdeen: Katniss is the protagonist of the novel and the narrator. She is a strong and independent person. She is a dynamic character because she changes due to the events in the novel. The Games are what changed her character the most.
Primrose Everdeen: Prim is a static character because she does not undergo any dramatic changes throughout the novel.
Peeta Mellark: Peeta is also a dynamic character because he changes throughout the novel. The events in the novel affect him and therefore he becomes a new person by the end of it all.
Haymitch Abernathy: Haymitch is a dynamic character because at the beginning of the novel he is a drunk and does a horrible job of helping his tributes, Katniss and Peeta. As the story progresses, he sobers up and provides real help to the tributes.
The Capitol: The Capitol is the antagonist. It is one large society but it is the main enemy of Katniss.
Literary Terms
Protagonist: the main character of a story.
Dynamic Character: changes; he/she is affected by the events in a story.
Static Character: does not change in the course of a story.
Antagonist: the force opposing the main character in a story.
