Macbeth Artifact

    This dagger is a very important part of the play. When Macbeth is about to kill Duncan, he sees a dagger floating in the air. The dagger is covered in blood and is pointed toward the king’s chamber. The dagger represents the future events that are the cause of Macbeth's deadly and bloody actions. It also represents Macbeth's desire of killing King Duncan. His mind has been working on the plan for so long that even when Macbeth is awake, he sees the weapon he is going to use to kill King Duncan already pointing towards Duncan. It symbolizes his ambition of being king. The dagger symbolizes visions and illusions. Macbeth sees and hears strange things all throughout the play, such as this dagger appearing out of thin air. The scene where this dagger appears, represents Macbeth's state of mind. It shows the descending madness and visions and their effects upon Macbeth. Even though at this point Macbeth hasn't actually committed the crime, he conscience is already filled with guilt. The dagger symbolizes what will be and the darkness that is to come.
